May has been filled with giant bass! While the numbers haven’t been super super high, the numbers of big fish have been fantastic.
Boats averaged around 40 per day this month, and there have been lots of bass in the 7-9lb range and many many in the 10-11 range capping off with a few 12lb giants.
The best bite by far has been the Bullshad swimbaits Bacca Burrito tophook swimbait in Lemonade versions with a stop and go retrieve fishing downhill around timber in the cuts. Right behind that, big deep cranks such as the XD10, XD8 and Spro Lil John stacked big bass in bunches. The ever trusty underspin with a variety of soft plastic swims as a trailer rounded out the big bass bite this May.
Padding the numbers we actually had a morning spook bite that made for some fun with busting bass!

Hottest Colors:watermelon, black , white
Time Of Day:all day
February and March were up, down and all around this season.
With this year’s irrigation season in full swing, a lot of water was drawn causing the big bass to hunker down at times causing some inconsistent fishing. We had daily numbers ranging from 20-120 per boat per day, but making the fish very difficult to pattern one day to the next.
The big fish baits were underspins, alabama rigs and 7″ senkos with numbers being landed with flukes, swimbaits, poppers, scroungers, and crankbaits.
As the irrigation and spawn coming to a close, look for some strong post spawn summer patterns to emerge with consistent fishing and schooling bass.

Senko
Hottest Colors:watermelon, black
Time Of Day:all day
Fierros group reporting down numbers from last year, and a few tough days after a cold front passing through, but overall good fishing.
Topwater bite was off this week but there were a few 8’s taken on a Rico popper. Senko rigged wacky and a variety of ways was the biggest producer.
Ralph, his brother, and Dad (at 92 years old) all got new personal bests. Dad getting a 9.94 and 9.6, Brother hitting a 9.2 and Ralph with the big fish of the trip at close to 11!

Hottest Colors:white, watermelon

The MN Bassheads are in town for their annual trip and are off to a decent start.
They’re seeing 50-70 per boat so far with each boat reporting different hot baits. Big fish have come on a variety of baits including DT10 crank, 7″ senko, small swimbaits on an underspin, and alabama rigs.
Some decent fish so far up to the mid 9’s, but with 4 days left in the trip and a lodge full of great anglers, we’re betting they stick some giants!

topwater, small swimmers, fluke
Hottest Colors:white, fire craw
Time Of Day:all day
Vinnie D is back to start the new year and as always, finds the pattern!
Vinnie is reporting 75 fish a day with the better fish coming on topwater Rico’s in the mornings and afternoons with small swimbaits and flukes filling out the action during the high sun hours.
The Wilson group is reporting similar action with their big sitting at 8+lbs
With all of these hammers at the lodge, it’s only a matter of time before DD’s hit the deck!
