Had a great trip to Lake Baccarac. Food and service are of exceptional quality typical of Rene Salazar and Terry Holland ventures. Fished for 4 days. 1st day yielded about 50 fish with 1 8 pounder and numerous 5 and 6 lb. fish mostly on watermelon seed/chartruese lizards. Day 2 we caught 60 fish. Found fish on rattletraps – chrome with blue back 1 oz. size. 1 – 7lb. and many 4,5 and 6 lb. fish. Day 3 saw tougher fishing with only about 40 fish but a nice 7 pounder nailed on lizard. Day 4 brought home another 7 pounder and quite a few 5 and 6 lb. fish on crankbaits, rattletraps and lizard. Total was about 50 fish. All in all a very enjoyable 4 days with plenty of nice fighting fish caught.

This report just in: Rene reports that Earl Rideau, while fishing by himself, caught a 12.7, and 11.8, a 10.12 and an 8.6, and caught total fish of around 40 using rattletraps, chrome and blue, along with the big Bill Dance crankbaits. Rene says fishin is getting better and better every day as the fish move out on the points. Rene stated, “I’ve never seen so many 5 to 7 lb. fish in any lake.” Gil Wright from Oklahoma City called and said the fishing was excellent, along with the weather, and his best afternoon was 50 fish, with his biggest being an 8.13 lb. fish. He commented on the quality of fish as being the best he has ever seen.

The numbers of 3 to 7 1/2 lb. bass are the best I’ve ever seen. In the last three days, we have had 50 fish morning and evening sessions, fishing for schooling bass as they are moving in and out of the cover around the points. Ricky Byers of Dimmitt, Texas caught a 10.8. James Ward of Broadhead, Kentucky caught a 12.10. Ed Meixner of St. Louis, Missouri caught a 12.2. Fishing is only going to get better and better as the water warms.
BASS IN TRANSITION

The bass are still in transition and are moving from the banks and the thick cover to the points and out on the humps. We have managed to land several fish between 9 and 12 1/2 lbs. as they are suspending in open water. We are having to work very hard to trigger this bite. Today, we are catching per boat 20 – 30 fish and it seems the numbers are going to start rising as the fish become more available in open water. The spawn this year is one of the best I have ever seen in all of my years of fishing. There will be an explosion of bass in this lake next season. I truly feel like from this point until we shut down the lodge in June that the fishing will be exceptional. We hope all people who are able will come and see us at the lodge and experience Lake Baccarac.

Had a great time fishing Baccarac and the camp is first rate. The fishing was tough but the quality of fish was terrific. We caught several fish over 5lbs, with 7.3 being the largest. The ride was not bad (compared to Huites), the food and rooms were first rate. I cannot wait to get back down to catch some more grande pescados.
