UNBELIEVABLE TRIP! Our group of 6 flew down on a private charter flight from PHX and landed 10 minutes from the lodge. Upon arrival the staff greeted us at the front steps with margaritas & nachos. The service/food was better than any operation we have fished with. The boats, motors, & electronics worked great, and the fishing was outstanding! Although Baccarac is typically known as a giant fish lake, the numbers we experienced were seriously 80-120 per day with most being 2-6lbs, many between 6-8lbs, eight fish over 9lbs, and two over 12lbs. The topwater/popper bite was phenomenal in the morning and evening, while 8″ lizzards and large worms in watermelon & green pumpkin variations worked very well for us the rest of the day. I racked up big numbers on 7.5″ Gene Larew Komodo Dragon lizzards, 8″ Zoom liz and a 9.5″ Reaction Innovations worm. One boat in our group caught a 9.3 and 9.1 on a 3/4 oz. white/chart. spinnerbait, along with many other quality fish. Another group staying at the lodge caught 4 over 10 on large Zara Spooks (Chart. back & belly with clear sides). The surface temp was 83-85 degrees, so I think most of the big fish are still deeper or near deep water. The 12lb fish were caught in 25-30 ft on 8″ watermelon Zoom lizzards. I had 2 fish snap 20lb XX strong P-line and 2 others break off 30lb Power Pro braid as they made off with 2 brand new $25 Rio Rico Poppers. I can’t wait to return and seek my revenge!!!

TOPWATER, TOPWATER, TOPWATER. Sonny Talkington of Bacurato, Sinaloa, Mexico states, This is the ultimate topwater fishing, with catches of 40 – 60 bass on top in the morning. Lots of 4 to 6 lb. fish exploding on topwater baits but also Scott Bartlett and Rick Peterson caught four fish over 10 lbs. using Zara Spooks. I highly recommend their guide, Hueleo (he’s the best!) Chuck Pierce with his dad, Richard, had great topwater sessions, also caught fish up to 10 lbs. using spinnerbaits with chartreuse and white skirts. Mark Harmon’s group from Phoenix fished with Eddie and had great success with topwater and spinnerbait bite. Kelly Dunn of Wichita, Kansas fished with Sixto Figueroa and could not believe the size and the action they experienced. The alternated betwen topwater and deep patterns and found fish both shallow and deep. Lake Baccarac is red hot and should continue to improve through the month of November and we hope to see you down very soon.

Chad and Ray Davis, while fishing with Sixto Figaroa, had incredible topwater action this a.m. using a magnum zara spook, caught 50 fish between 2 and 6 lbs. Rene says the lake is ready and waiting.

After being off the water for a couple of weeks, we fished the lake again this weekend and it has improved and will be hitting its stride very, very soon. Although many of the bigger fish are still in 20 feet of water, we did manage to get a 12.5 and 12.8 Sunday afternoon, midday fishing up near the cross. Last year’s spawn was fantastic because the number of 1 lb. and 1 1/2 lb. bass have overtaken the banks at Lake Baccarac. There are plentiful 4 to 6 lb. bass in 14 feet of water on almost every point, whether it’s in the main lake or up in the rivers. Lake Baccarac is full once again and the water is very clear.

This report just gathered from Rene and his guides at Lake Baccarac: Lake Baccarac is behaving very nicely with the water level today at 93%, the water extremely clear and the health of the lake looks excellent. Rene says he is as excited today as he has ever been about any fishing season he embarked on. He said walking out to the shores of the lake gave him goosebumps. He feels that this is going to be, by far, the best fishing season he will ever witness, considering the numbers of big bass caught last season and the big bass they just recently caught. With the water level today, the huge monster bass that anchor down in the creek channels during the month of August have worked their way up in the more shallow water (25 – 40 ft. deep). You can actually see the movement on the depth finders from day to day as the fish are working their way to more catchable depths. Fishing mainly with swimbaits and lipless crankbaits in the structure in the main lake, Rene reports a dozen fish over 10 lbs. being caught yesterday afternoon. He got broke off two different occasions. Some of the other guides who were using 1 oz. spinnerbaits and throwing them and letting them sink to the bottom and working them off of the bottom, also reported fish over 10 lbs., with the biggest fish being 15.1. After last year’s terrific spawn, the number of 1 lb. bass cruising the banks is the best Rene has ever seen in any lake he has ever fished. The stage is set for a fantastic season and I hope to see you at the lodge.
