Today, Lake Baccarac is 90% full and the water is clear and the fishing is very good. Most all of the fish are on the long main lake points and the open lake structure and once we found one fish, there would always be ten more to catch out of the same hole. Fish up to 12 1/2 lbs. were caught using rattletraps in 25 feet of water. When they stopped biting on rattletraps, you could use carolina rigged watermelon seed lizards. If you are coming in the next 60 days, expect clearer water than normal for this time of year and make sure you have new line on your reels. We had two big fish break a new 20 lb. test line. We are still having rains daily. See you at the lodge!

This report in from Rene: Today, the lake at Baccarac is at 78% capacity with the rainy season underway. The lake should start the season out at 100% again this season. We have had fishermen at the lodge all summer and the recent group of five fishermen that fished six days caught 52 bass over 10 lbs. All of the big bass came while fishing Storm 6 inch swimbaits, Bill Lewis 1 1/2 oz. rattletraps and Norman 20 ft. diving chartreuse crankbaits. The big bass are very concentrated on the humps and on the edges of the creek channel and can be spotted using the graphs in 25 to 28 feet of water. Numbers of one lb. bass can be caught casting towards the banks using shallow running Bill Dance crankbaits. The mornings have been very hot but we are receiving rain almost every afternoon.

WHAT A TRIP!!! We had the pleasure of having the King Of Fishing, the Madman of Bass, the Ultimate Bass Warrior, Rene Salazar as our guide for two of the four days we fished Lake Baccarac. We caught a 12-5,10-14,10-2,9-14,9-2,8-3,8-3,many 7’s, 6’s, and 5’s. We lost about 8 more fish that would be in the 8 lb. and above category. I have had the pleasure of fishing both of Rene and Terrys’ lodges and as always the entire trip was a definite pleasure. Food, guides, lodge, and the rest of the staff are as good as it gets. The big fish were hitting 5 inch swim baits and 1 oz. rattletraps. It is utterly amazing to watch 7 to 10 lb. bass surface feeding in the morning and evenings. If you don’t have it go get it. I am talking about chartruse dye. For some reason known to Rene and the guides a little dye put on certain areas of the swim baits increased the number of bites in any given day. And Rene Salazar, a man of major fishing talent is amazing. He has been fishing for many years and everytime a large fish was caught he was as happy as a kid catching his first fish all over again. Thanks again for a great and memorable trip and our next trip won’t come soon enough!!

Trey Walters, this morning, caught a 12.6 on a 5″ swimbait. He also caught a 9.12, a 7.6, a 7.4 and a 7.0. There were also many smaller fish – a 5.8, a 5.12 and a 5.0. John Struthers this a.m. caught a 12.5! All fish are coming in the open water humps and open structure in 18 feet of water. Silver rattletraps laying on the bottom worked slowly, produce better numbers. The swimbaits produce the bigger fish. The weather is hot in the morning, but cloud covers covers the lake by noon, creating almost ideal fishing conditions. We will be open in June and hope to see you there!
