Great friends of the Lodge are catching their personal best! Doug Fisk landed a beautiful 12.5 pounder, and Jeff Massey's boys both caught fish near 11 pounds. The list just goes on and on from there.

Papachaw is holding the giants, and the river has great numbers of 3 to 6 pound bass.

As predicted, we are seeing heavy action on big crankbaits, with the big DX10 in shad color offering the best results. Big Al from Philadelphia cranked a couple over 12 lbs. Shane Ryal and his Son Travis also got 5 over 10 on the Big DX10.
We are seeing good numbers for most of the boats and many other trophies could be reported in the coming days.

This happens every year and this year is no exception, with the fish moving out on the long points and submerged islands, able to be caught in 20 feet of water using big crankbaits and slow rolling spinnerbaits.

We have about 6 more weeks before the heavy rains so don't miss out and come see!

The previous weeks, the 10 plus pounders have been more plentiful but it is just a matter of time until the trophies will caught on crankbaits. Time to start bringing your strike king DX 8 and DX 10 crankbaits. In the past 3 days, Tom Fenton caught a phenomenal number of 7 pound bass on swimbaits. The total number of 7 pounders being caught by Tom was 56 (that was in one day).

The weather is warming up and the action is around 40 fish a day per boat, using mostly swimbaits and jigs. The crankbait action is picking up but no topwater has been found.

Our good friend Chad Meenan and The President of the Lake Baccarac fan club Bill Quattucci arrived 7 days ago with a group of 20 from New England, and these guys a ripped up the trophy bass at Lake Baccarac with 19 of the 20 catching their personal bests, and that is just part of the story.

The personal results are great but the summary is just as amazing with a total of 15 bass over 10 pounds being recorded from the group and over 150 over 8 pounds recorded.

Super Guide Poncho and the old favorite Sixto have been responsible for the best results. From Bill Q's mouth "Lake Baccarac Lodge has the best guides in Mexico.. Period! Do not be fooled by statements from any other outfitters."

The fish are currently in a little transition stage with the extreme heat. Bigger fish are moving to the humps and the long humps. Crankbait action is just about to get "cranked up."

Swimbait action from the New England guys was incredible. Overall numbers are slower from the previous week, but average catch size has increased.

From Chad Meenan: "Incredible from all aspects of the trip. These Guides are the best."

Hottest Colors:

Details:

Unseasonably hot weather has pressured the fishing, and the numbers per day have been down the last 2 days as the bigger fish now are suspending and pulling off in deeper water. The results of this will be a great crankbait bite soon, however. Several 8 pound bass were caught using 1/2 oz jigs (mostly black and blue color). Action up the river is decent but we are not finding any bigger fish in that area this week.

President of Lake Baccarac Fan Club "Mr Bill Q" is on the water this week with group of 20. They will stir things up and I predict they will find the patterns.

The reports a week ago were just awesome. Jackson Bean and his group just had their best trip to any place they have ever been, fishing in the shallows and getting a fair share of 8 to 11 pound bass. Big 1 oz jigs are producing the bigger bass, with hard-sided swimbaits being the 2nd best bait on the lake right now. Of course, wacky style senkos are putting the numbers in the boat. Some boats averaged over 80 a day. Huge rains and extreme cold weather hammered the lake last Friday, and the bigger bass tended to disappear. The biggest bass of the weekend was a nice 12.7 caught by Robert Allison.

Come see us!!!

Great reports over the last 10 days with plenty of 8 to 9 pound bass for everyone at the lodge . Monster Bass between 10 and 14 pounds have also been showing up with a great deal of frequency.

Recently, Wes Moffat used 1 oz jigs fishing in 16 ft of water and caught 3 over 10 lbs, with the largest at 12.2 lbs. Robert Brand bagged a 13.5 pounder on a 1 oz jig fishing deep as well. David Weeks caught 11 over 8 pounds using scroungers tipped with flukes. Our friends from Japan caught fish from 8 to 13 pounds using swimbaits in 8 ft of water. Barry Rich landed a nice 10 pounder using spinnerbaits. The list goes on and on.

The big fish are coming from various spots on the Lake but the east side seem to be producing the bigger ones, according Narlin .

Guide tip of the month. Use Mono and not Braid; if you are coming this far bring good equipment and let the guide help you. The guides do know the Lake!

With the constant weather and improving temperatures, the bass have settled into a nice pattern and are moving up into the more shallow water. I still see this as being a great year to be on Baccarac. Trophies are being recorded daily, and the customers' personal bests are being shattered. Swimbaits produced one fish that weighed 14 and several others in the 10 to 11 pound range. Flukes and Senkos are being fished in the more shallow water and those boats are recording high numbers of fish caught.

Baccarac is the trophy lake to be at this year! We still have room in February and March and invite everyone that can to come see us.

I have room on private flights March 1, March 8 and March 28. Call (806) 679-4433 for more details.

Jarrell Long reports five fish over 10 pounds, with a good number of 5 to 8 pounders. Jarrell felt that fishing with guide Poncho you could easily catch 100 fish a day. "Poncho is an excellent guide and understands the movement of the bass," said Jarrell.

The big fish are moving up in shallow water and are preparing to spawn in the view of many at the lodge.

This morning the action was incredible fishing with senkos and lizards.

Been a Funky week with the weather change. Not seeing many 10-plus pound fish, but seeing several 8 to 9 pounders. The fish tend to be staging out on the long points and the heavy deep structure. Shane and Travis Ryal just finished with 7 days on the water, fishing with Lodge Manager Narlin Salazar, with several 8 and 9 pounders and two over 10. Lots of small bass in the shallows, which is normal for this time of year. The lodge is full the next several days so look forward to the reports.

Great opportunity for flying private at a discounted rate. Depart Fort Worth Jan 26 and return Jan 30

Additional opportunity on Feb 12 departing Fort Worth at a discount, returning on Feb 16th in the afternoon. Need a group of 4! Four full days and only pay for 3 days of fishing - this will be the best price all year long!

The big fish are biting again after a taking a couple of days off. With water and air temps falling, the big bite is on again if you move off and fish the deep structure...deeper structure is the key. Robert Reed has been fishing with super guide Sixto and caught three over 8 lbs and one over 12 lbs, fishing off in 20 ft of water. Scroungers and bouncing spinnerbaits are the key! Sixto loves 1 oz jigs in watermelon color. Some boats are catching 60 fish a day.

Several spots open on private planes and we hope to see you on the water.

We have had overall slow numbers the last couple of days, but the mid afternoon bite in deeper structure has produced trophies, with mostly only small bass in the shallows. Rather than list off the bigs ones, I can sum it up by saying that we are not producing the same results as we were 10 days ago, with the changing weather affecting the bite.

Starting tomorrow we have a big front coming which will bring both rain and colder weather. No predictions on what that will do for the fishing.

Of course I was calling for continued jig bite deep as the last week of 2016 was amazing, however, cooler weather and those pesky small bass have been all over the banks. The solution is simply to move off to deeper water and dress a little warmer!

The first few days of 2017 slowed the big bite down, but Greg Riggle did manage multiple bass over 10 pounds. You can certainly catch a lot of small bass right now, but don't give up on the big ones. We've got a nice group at the Lodge right now, and we are looking forward to the reports.

I hold steady calling for a continuation of trophy bass being caught, similar to the bite we had in the fall.

Baccarac is primed!

We need 2 people for a private flight departing January 29th, returning February 4th. Call (806) 679-2266.
