The last week has been producing 75 fish a day per boat, with big fish reaching the 10 pound mark. There have been lots of solid 2 to 3 pound bass, with several 6 pounders per boat. The east side of the lake is the strongest, but we are also seeing great numbers of fish coming from the river.

We have four seats available out of Fort Worth on January 14th. Call 806-679-4433 for details!

For 3 to 7 pounders, green brush hogs have been working best. Tom Crim caught the three biggest fish on the lake, with a total weight of almost 37 pounds.

Hottest Baits:
spinnerbait, finesse worms
Hottest Colors:

Time of Day:

Details:

The passing of Hurricane Patricia created a low pressure system that made the action on the lake just unreal. We've had countless 2 to 3 pounders, and good spinnerbait action for the midsize 5 to 8 pounders, but nothing to report over 10. Finesse worms in motor oil and root beer color were eaten up by the smaller fish. It seems like a large number of fish are still positioned in the back of the coves. We did manage to catch 1/2 dozen on topwater in the late afternoon. The lake is at 78% capacity, and Sixto and Manuel are the guides that are dialed into the fish the best.

We currently have two seats available out of Fort Worth on a private flight on November 20. Call 806-679-4433 to book.

Hottest Baits:
lizards, topwater, rattletraps
Hottest Colors:
watermelon lizards, silver rattletraps

Time of Day:
all day

Details:

With the lake standing at about 70% capacity and currently stable, and with temperatures in the low 90s, fishing is as we expected. There is a ton of surface activity as fish are cornering shad and chasing them to the top. Although these fish will not take a topwater lure, the schooling bass can be caught using 3/4 and 1 oz rattletraps. Yesterday, four fish between 8 and 11 were caught on rattletraps in Cove Papachaw. With the stable lake level, fish have been suspended in 25 feet of water out in the main lake. A lot of these fish are catchable with watermelon lizards and watermelon worms, along with bouncing white double-bladed spinnerbaits on the bottom. Just sticking with the basic worm for the day, there is currently no problem catching between 20 and 50 per day. Last spring, the spawn was fantastic, with countless 9 to 12 inch bass running the lake near the surface.

Terry,

Thought I would give you a report on our recent trip to the lodge. We had a great time but never got into the “Grandes”. We caught 217 fish with (3) 8’s, (4) 7’s. The fun thing was that 50% of the fish were 3.5 to 6 pound Baccarac freight trains. Countless times I was sure I had a 10 plus and it turned out to be a 4-6 pound fighter. Our running joke was “(insert guides name here) was not impressed” as we reeled in another fish that had just kicked our butt and impressed us.
The food was the best I had ever had and of course the service was great. All in all we had a wonderful trip and we’re already planning the next adventure.

Regards,

Dan

Sorry guys – I’ve been recovering from back surgery and haven’t been able to post for a while but here’s a recap of the month has offered everything. Five fish per day to recently 300 fish per day. Jeff Massey and the Bass Champ guys had some struggling days but eventually started fishing past dark to eleven and twelve and absolutely tore up the 7 lb. bass.
Narlin described it as as many as you wanted to catch.
Next was Wes Moffatt’s group and he described his fishing days with his father as great – found excellent top water holes using yellow magic in bone color. Wes also said Papachaw produced at certain spots as many fish as you wanted to catch, most of them being one and two lbs. But even within Wes’ group, there was disappointment and Neal Ford described it at the same time as humbling.
Most recently over the last three days, Shane and Jonathan Frazier reported blow-out results, catching 300 fish a day with big fish over 9 lbs. showing up on a regular basis. These fish are being caught at some of the key top water spots and also along the small creek channels in 14 to 16 feet of water.

We are looking for customers to put a group together on a private plane so please give us a call.

Jeff Massey group, flying in private, just returned with a blow-out trip. First day and a half, offering Jeff Massey himself several 7 lbers. Four 8’s, three 9’s and one over 11. Others in his group doing comparably the same, with a few less numbers. A one-day cold front moved through and slowed it down but the fishing recovered quickly to what was described as phenomenal in the afternoon sessions, using black and blue senkos, junebug and tequila sunrise heavy bulk worms with heavy twisted tails that produced sixty to eighty fish between 7 and 12 lbs. per boat.
The fishing is tending only to get better and some of the locals are catching fish with Zara spooks and pearl colored swim baits.

David Arizpe and his partner from Monterrey, Mexico absolutely destroyed the lake – fishing anything from flukes, senkos and top water with pictures posted on our Facebook page and reported, there can’t be a better lake than this anywhere in the world!

Time of Day:

Details:

It's been a strange week here at Baccarac; the Archibald group started out with a bang and multiple big fish, but the rain has moved in and actually drove us off of the lake one day. The low-pressure system has really hampered results the remainder of the week - along the entire coast, from Mazatlan to Obregon, we have been experiencing rain and high winds. Fishing has slowed to about 40 fish a day. The super grandes have disappeared, but catching a six or seven pounder has been no problem the last couple of days.

Details:

The fishing continues to improve with numbers holding high, some boats catching up to 150 a day and we are seeing an increasing number of 8 to 10 ½ lb. bass. The big bass are coming off of ¾ oz spinner baits and 16 foot running Rapala crank baits. The boats catching the highest numbers have experienced great topwater but mostly catching the bass in the back of the coves on watermelon lizards.
