This was the best all-around fishing trip I have had in eight times visiting Lake Baccarac. The numbers by far exceeded any other trip. On the first day, our boat caught 168 fish. On the second day, our boat landed 130 fish. The third day, we caught over 100 fish with four 10 lbers and on the fourth day, we caught over 100 fish again. All in all, there are plenty of 1 and 2 lbers mixed in with plenty of 3 to 5 lbers. The top water fishing is excellent for the fish in the 5 to 8 lb. range and the big wild eyed shads caught all of the fish that were over 9 lbs. All boats in the group had comparable luck , with our guides rated about equal and the fishermen skill level in our group was equal as well. The only unpleasant time on the water was late afternoon rains which produced some very cold weather and it kept us from staying out late under the palapa in the evening. The food, as usual, was excellent. Manuel is a one-of-a-kind host and we will be going back soon.

Fishing was nothing short of great! I brought a crappie counter with me to keep track of my daily catch and averaged well over a 100 fish a day. The biggest being 9lbs. Most were caught on senkos with a weighted hook. Though I kept a Red Eyed Shad rattle bait on and cast when I see bass busting up bait fish and caught an 8lber doing that. The scenery was great as usual and the wildlife viewing was an awesome added bonus. Can't wait to go back.

From Andy Fabbo and Jeff Howell:

Jeff Howell and I fished our favorite Big Bass Lake on the planet from the 3rd thru the 7th of December and once again Lake Baccarc Lodge did not disappoint. Our guide Manual (Mexico’s Best), had us on good bass at our very first spot and the action was hot & heavy for our entire trip. Jigs, scroungers and flukes were our go to baits and the super charged Lake Baccarac Bass were in an feeding mood. During several extended periods of both our morning & the afternoon sessions it was a bass on every cast with well over 400 hundred 2-4 lb bass coming to the boat. The last two days of this epic trip, the really big bass that this lake is known for began to feed. Jeff & I both landed several bass between 5 and 7 pounds along with 8, 9 and 10 pound trophies. I’d like to thank Terry Hollan, our guide Manual and the entire Staff for making this whole experience so memorable. Lake Baccarac is alive & well and we can’t wait to get back.

The lake continues to produce the monster bass. Seven out of the nine people in our group caught their personal best. In total, we had 39 fish between 8 and 9 lbs. weighed in for the group and an amazing 13 fish over 10 lbs. caught. After retooling all of my gear, I did a lot better on days two, three and four, but I realized, however that this lake requires you to fish hard and with perseverance. You can easily catch fifty fish a day per boat providing you persevere through the slow times
which came at different times for everyone in our group . My guide Pablo who basically spoke no English always managed to get the message across on what we should be doing and why we should be doing it that way. Many in our group said the trip far exceeded their expectations while a couple seemed disappointed that we did not have consistent topwater action. If going in the next couple of weeks, and while I have very little knowledge about the lake but I assume it is only going to get better as the weather cools. Thank you and all of your staff for a wonderful trip!

text received from Lodge from Bob Wentworth:

First day on the lake resulted in some pretty poor fishing. This morning, the bite was very slow and I take the blame for fishing way too fast and being too excited. I only caught about a half a dozen fish and most of those were caught as I was reeling the bait in and I was close to the boat.

The afternoon session, I slowed way down and I am still to blame for poor results as I was using 12 to 14 lb. line that got broke off at least seven times and my guide, Pablo, repeatedly told me that my fishing tackle was not the right tackle for the lake, and after today’s fishing, I realized that I should have used the suggested tackle. We did catch one bass on 14 lb. test that was 10.13 lbs. I can only assume that the other bass that had broken off were larger than that. Even though I did not catch very many fish I can easily say that this afternoon session was the most phenomenal day I have spent on the water. The staff and the lodge are fantastic. Pablo’s personal attention, in my mind, is unmatched by any resort I have been to. I will be sending a full report upon the completion of my trip.

Finding an incredibly large number of 3 – 8 lb. bass, even lucky enough to catch two bass over 10 lbs. The early morning temperatures are requiring a heavy jacket. With nine people in the group, I can say that fishing with Manuel Salazar is definitely the secret weapon. He sticks with the patterns that he knows will work and gives you the confidence enough to believe that you are fishing the right bait. Fishing 3.8 oz. Scroungers with 8 inch watermelon lizards works best for us, along with 6 inch pearl wild-eyed shads. Bouncing 1 oz. spinner baits across the long points worked every day during the noon hour. We were lucky enough to have some top water every afternoon, starting around 4:30. Fishing in Manuel’s secret spots easily produced 50 – 70 bass a day.

Fishing is getting better and better, and Narlin Salazar reports it as being excellent. He reports that guide Eddie Perez has been on a hot streak, finding some great patterns. Narlin as well has been on the water. Bill Hicks arrived in his private jet from Midland and reported that “fishing doesn’t get any better than this. Where else can you get results like this?”

There is some topwater bite in the morning, getting stronger every day as the temperatures cool. The best bite is using a scrounger tipped with a watermelon fluke, along with bouncing a swimming shad across the long points. The isolated humps are holding lots of six to nine pound bass. One of the 16 guys at the lodge recently should be sending a video that represents countless 6 to 9 lb. bass caught at one of Narlin’s favorite honey holes.

Gil Wright is making a return trip in the next six or seven days and is looking for a couple of more people for his plane so please call 806-679-4433 if you are interested in going on a trip with Gil and his group.

November 17th, I have two seats out of El Paso, along with two seats out of Midland. Call 806-679-4433 to reserve one of those two places.

The last two days at the lodge have been beyond excellent, according to Big Al Levonchuck and his group. Fish are holding along the tops of the isolated humps and long points, with the change in pressure creating great topwater fish. Al and his crew reported 30 topwater fish in the morning with several 8 to 9 pound bass, three over 10 pounds, and one over 11 pounds. That's right, 10s and 11s on topwater! The afternoon bite was with swim baits in 16 feet of water. As the cold front moved thru the fishing has exploded.

We have private planes arriving today with Bill Hicks and other regulars. Call 806-679-4433 for real time reports.

With the sharp improvement in fishing, next week we will offer open seats direct to the lake. Call 806-679-4433.

Continued hot weather with no end in sight, the bite at Lake Baccarac is still slow but we did get an encouraging report this morning from Big Al Levonchuck. “We’re kicking some bass a** with lots of eights and nines and a couple over ten.” Al went on to report that the morning bite is starting to offer up some topwater and overall from six a.m. to two p.m. is when the active bite occurs. Al also reports that there are fish on all of the open water humps and anchored down off the long points and when you do stumble on to one of those humps and when they start biting you need to stay there. Al and his group mainly using Carolina rigged watermelon lizards, swimming shad baits, slow rolling spinner baits on the bottom, along with Zara spooks early morning. Al is thinking that 25 to 30 fish a day should be a very easy mark to hit.

We have plenty of open seats on private planes so make sure to give us a call! 8066794433

Very tough fishing and very tough fishing conditions over the last five days with extremely hot weather – high pressure system in the area. The water level is stable. The bass, although plentiful, chose not to be aggressive. With that being said, depending on guides, some boats still managed to catch 30 to 35 fish a day. We did have the Big Bass Shootout with Dave Luke’s group from OKC, along with our perennial all star, Gil Wright, participating as well. As always, the fan favorite, Gil Wright, was favored going into the Big Bass Shootout, but he was shot down by Dave Luke, as Dave finished first and Gil coming in a close second. Could it be that the king of big bass has been dethroned?!? Only time will tell. In a short interview after the contest, Dave’s only response was “I always thought it was all media bias in regards to Gil’s prowess.”

The most productive baits going forward will be Carolina rigged watermelon lizards, small spinner baits, swimming shad baits and crank baits and topwater is right around the corner with the first little drop in temperatures.

Call for the two seats available out of El Paso.

With various groups visiting the lodge, this June has just not produced good fishing. The bite is extremely slow; however, the bass are the healthiest we have ever seen – absolutely gorging themselves on the abundance of shad in the lake. There have been several 8 to 11 lb. fish caught but the numbers caught have ranged from five or six per day to 25 or 30 and that’s only at times when the bite picks up. The lake level is already on the rise with the summer rains. Hope to see you at the lodge soon!

The fishing at the lake is starting to get stronger as we approach June which is historically a strong month. Super Fisherman Gil Wright and his recent group had varied results but Steve Gilcrease and Paul Kennedy led the pack and won the pot with fish over 11 lbs. As the fish are starting to concentrate on the points, it has become clear that the crankbait action will be in full force within the next week to ten days. Late afternoon topwater has also been exciting. The group at the lodge currently, although having very slow mornings, is making up for it with 25 to 30 fish in the afternoons and fish up to 11 lbs.

Over the last two weeks, fishing has ranged from fantastic to just average, with fish actually being seen on the banks swimming around and spawning. The monster fish being seen, unfortunately, are not biting as they should or as we would want them to. Mike McVay and Bill Hicks group flying private out of Hobbs, New Mexico were catching up to 100 fish a day, with around a half a dozen over 10 lbs. caught within their group. The big group out of Memphis, Jeff Howell, had below-average catches, with the big fish bite slowing way down. Jeff and his core group of four did manage a fish over 10 and some nice ones over 9, fishing senkos and flukes. Sorry for the sporadic reporting - we have been in the air flying back and forth. If you ever wanting the real updated reports, just call our cell phone - 806-679-4433.

Also, we have one open seat departing Aril 22, returning April 28. Call for details. Don't pass this deal up! Fishing should be prime.
